This image was taken in Sag Harbor, New York around 2008, at the Sag Harbor Whaling Museum. This whale boat is a reproduction of the type typically used to pursue whales. It was also the same type of boat used by Caleb Brewster to ferry the Culpers' messages across Long Island Sound. This style of small boat was very portable and did not require many men to maneuver, making it ideal for the guerilla warfare occurring on and around Long Island Sound during the Revolutionary War.
