Title

Robert Townsend Account Book, Page 70 (front)

Subject

Spies--United States--History--Revolution, 1775-1783
Account books--New York

Description

This page from August of 1779 shows a pattern developing where large amounts of cash are moved in Robert Townsend's father's name, including a very similar amount in two entries, followed immediately by Woodhull's name. When Robert's father Samuel Townsend's name appears twice, so does Woodhull's. These entries occur too frequently and the connection to Woodhull's name suggests they were connected to Townsend's large cash movements used to help gather intelligence.
