Account books--New York

Description

This page of Robert Townsend's ledgers places Abraham Woodhull in Townsend's store on several dates in August and October of 1779, along with a date in March 1780. This corresponds with patterns in the Culper dispatches, and it suggests that by the end of the summer of 1779, Woodhull was only traveling to New York City occaisionally to troubleshoot issues or to talk to Townsend. The large sums--some 70 pounds cash--involved suggest that Woodhull's visits may have included some of the transfers of money Tallmadge sent the Culper Spy Ring.
